Education System in New Zealand

  • Primary school: A child attends a primary school after the age of 5, from age of 6 to 12. In New Zealand, there are state funded/public, state-integrated and private schools for primary and secondary education.
  • Secondary school: Secondary school also referred to as high school. Each secondary school uses a practical curriculum to help students get prepared for either the work world or higher education, and the curriculum is regulated by the Government’s Education Review Office.
  • Higher education: It comprises of undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral level courses

Students have to pass two or more additional tests to qualify for getting admission in one of the universities in New Zealand. It is very important for an international student to be proficient in English to be able to study in New Zealand. A student must give the required test and obtain a particular score required in order to get admission in the desired course.

  • English Language test is IELTS and TOEFL.
  • SAT and GRE are for getting admission in undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
